Pop-Up Info Session: Stereographs

Pop-up Info Session:

Stereographs From the CMP’s Permanent Collection

November 4, 1-2 PM (Family First Sundays)

How did we look up images and exchange information before the age of the Internet?

Museum visitors are welcome to drop-in during its monthly Pop-up Info Session for casual conversations thematically based on the objects featured in the exhibition “Collected.” This month’s focus will be on stereographs.

The California Museum of Photography (CMP) houses the largest collection of three-dimensional imagery or “stereographs,” which played a major role in education and entertainment in the latter part of the nineteenth century. They were also used for journalistic reporting on many of the current events of the period. A selection of stereographs from the museum’s collection is currently on view in an exhibition entitled, “Collected.” Museum staff will be present during the Pop-up Info Session (dates and times listed above) to facilitate conversations and present demos on stereoscopic devices and images.

“Pop-up Info Session” is supported by the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts at UC Riverside. The Gluck Fellows Program is made possible by the generosity of the Max H. Gluck Foundation. “Pop-up Info Session” is lead by Angela Lessing, UC Riverside Gluck Fellow in Art History.
