Pop-up Info Session: Carte de Visite

Sunday, December 2, 2018, 1pm - 2pm

How did business cards look in the 19th century?

Museum visitors are welcome to drop-in during its monthly Pop-up Info Session for casual conversations thematically based on objects featured in the exhibition Collected. This month’s focus will be on carte de visite.

In the mid-nineteenth century carte de visite was considered as a calling card that contained a photographic portrait mounted on it. The cards were inexpensive and were commonly exchanged on birthdays and holidays. The California Museum of Photography (CMP) has a selection of carte de visite from its collection on view in the exhibition Collected. Museum staff will be present during the Pop-up Info Session on Family First Sunday to facilitate conversations and answer questions.

Pop-up Info Session is supported by the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts at UC Riverside. The Gluck Fellows Program is made possible by the generosity of the Max H. Gluck Foundation. Pop-up Info Session is lead by Angela Lessing, UC Riverside Gluck Fellow in Art History.
