Breaking Conventions: Interdisciplinary Methodologies & Art History

6th Annual Graduate Student Conference

Culver Center of the Arts

May 20, 2017

6th Annual Art History Graduate Student Conference

Saturday, May 20, 2017, 9am - 5pm

How can methodologies from other disciplines enhance, redirect, and fruitfully challenge the ways in which art historians view, describe and interpret works of art? How do methods outside of art history affect the art history canon? How can non-art historical methods prompt us to see traditional artistic media, such as painting and sculpture, anew? Alternatively, do traditional art historical methods have the potential to encourage the expansion of the art historical canon?

The UCR Art History Graduate Association presents a day of interdisciplinary papers that dress how methodologies from other fields have shaped art historical discourse.

Support has been provided by UCR College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) and the City of Riverside.
