ARTSblock in collaboration with the CHASS Dean’s Office and UCR Department of History presents Change Agent: A Weekend Series of Films by Frederick Marx. Marx will be present to discuss each film. The Series begins tonight and goes through Saturday, November 15. Rites of Passage explores culturally appropriate passage and mentorship programs that address teen dysfunction: drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy and STDs, school dropouts and expulsions, gangs, depression and violence. Frederick Marx is an Oscar and Emmy nominated producer and director who achieved international fame for Hoop Dreams, 1994. Marx repeatedly returns to work with disadvantaged and misunderstood communities: people of color, abused children, the working poor, prisoners, and at-risk youth.
