Analogues: Johnna Arnold features an image from Arnold's series From Inside This Earth, a body of unique photographic C-prints made by enlarging individual samples of used motor oil. A thin layer of oil is poured on a glass plate, which is then placed inside a photographic enlarger. The enlarger sends light through the plate and lens, onto the light-sensitive paper below, creating colorful abstractions of accidental beauty.
As a series, Analogues features a single work by contemporary artists whose image-making resonates with the themes presented in the permanent collection gallery.
