Ruby Satellite - Chicago
Hyde Park Art Center
California Museum of Photography
July 15 - September 15, 2006
Opening Reception | Saturday, July 15, 2006, 7pm - 9pm |
Currently on tour at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, this exhibition is inspired by the bizarre real-life case of Russell Eugene Weston Jr., who stormed the U.S. Capital building in search of the Ruby Satellite killing 2 police officers in his wake. The exhibition RUBY SATELLITE explores authority, its many guises, and its ability to assert overt, hidden, or overwhelming control. Whether one attempts to resist, subvert, ignore, or submit unquestioningly to a higher force, the inescapable impulse to respon - either negatively or positively - to an authority cannot be denied.
RUBY SATELLITE brings together a group of artists - Marc Bijl, Paul Chan, Kota Ezawa, Wei Guanquin, Nicoline Van Harskamp, Mathilde Ter Heijn, Janice Kerbel, Annika Larsson, and Yoshua Okon - who examine these complicated drives in a group of forceful works - photographs, video, sound works, and installations.
